“Passage” - the passing of seasons, years, and space. I have visited and worked in boatyards since I was a teenager. Recently, I’ve been exploring boat hulls at the change of seasons, looking for abstract landscapes left by peeling paint, wear, and barnacles. The trick in this is to see “through” the flat surface of the hull into imagined land, sea, and sky. The images in this new project, in which I have also imagined viewing “through” the surface of the boat hull, show the effect of passing seasons on trees, bushes, and shrubs that I have found growing nearby the boatyards. Here I further erode the texture and patterns I find along the boat hull surface to see the interplay of natural shapes and colors of plants as they too change with the season.
